THE  LOGO  PROCESS

   A Logo Is Born

Inspiration. The process always starts by learning as much about the organization — its business, audience, markets, objectives, challenges — and identifying symbols for the company that help reveal the image they want to convey.

Thumbnails. Our designers usually start with true thumbnail sketches rather than moving right to the computer. The clients almost never see our thumbnails since they are very rough and represent all of our ideas.

Computer Renderings.Once we have our thumbnails, we use the computer to bring our sketches to life. Often we have a good idea in a sketch, but when we tweak it a little on the computer it becomes a great idea.

Presentation/Refinement. We narrow down the logos to our best concepts and present them to the client and further refine per their feedback. We need to get as much detail as possible about what they like or don't like.

Color Exploration. Once the logo is approved in black & white, we begin our color exploration. We go back to the client's original feedback and vision for the logo to help us select colors. As with fonts, we always try out a number of color combinations.

Stationery Package. The final logo can now be applied to a stationery package, collateral material and online communications.

Logos are probably one of our favorite projects to tackle. Maybe it's because a logo is a company's thumbprint, symbolizing its business, mission and culture. Or maybe it's because logo design shows creative evolution in its most simplistic form. Bottom-line: We love corporate identity projects and would like to share our most recent project and process with you.
Inspiration
Performance Drivers, Inc. is a company that provides tools and processes that drive organizational performance. Their key symbols are: alignment, energy, movement, direction, and vision.
Thumbnails

Some of our initial thumbnails for Performance Drivers. They seem too static and too symmetrical so we keep working.
Computer Renderings

The refinements for the Performance Drivers' mark start to show movement and some nice angles. We're getting closer.
Presentation/Refinement

We add different type treatments to the mark. We're feeling good because they show both movement and direction.
Color Exploration

We selected a fresh, contemporary color palette for the final logo.
Stationery Package

To jump-start the company's marketing efforts and meet their immediate needs, we supplied the client with the stationery package as Microsoft Word files so they could print it in-house.
